Construction starts on Mobile's Airbus plant for Airbus A220 (previously known as the Bombardier Aerospace C Series)
When the production plant is complete in 2019 this will provide Airbus with its second US-based facility.
Over the recent past Airbus has become a major employer in the US, and is now sourcing equipment from many local firms. It is now estimated that the company supports just under 300,000 US jobs (either directly or indirectly).
Aside from Airbus providing US-based firms with close to $50 billion in work, the workers employed by these various firms are supporting nearby shops and banks by choosing to purchase homes close to the factory.
Airbus is an expanding company, with recent developments in satellite photography and drone drone aircraft (see Airbus Aerial)
According to AL.com Airbus has received incentive packages from both the city and the county.
These tax incentives include reductions to property taxes and waivers to construction fees.
Airbus acquired a 50.01% majority stake in the C-Series, in October 2017,
